Using "UART1_SetRxInterruptHandler" to be notified when a character is available possible? (meyerjoh)

I am trying to write a simple program to test being alerted to a character available from the UART, similar to UART1_is_rx_ready, but using an interrupt instead. I am ashamed to say that I cannot get this to work, and am hoping for some helpful pointers. ..
